60/76 Track Definitions & Terminology
Terminology/Definitions
“Saved Tracks” and “Track Log” are the names of the memory locations in your GPS where tracks are stored.
“Track Point” is one single point of position measured in longitude/latitude or one “Cookie Crumb” as many people call it. A “Track” is made of a series of Track Points.
“Track Log On/Off” is the settable On/Off status of the GPS recording any track points found at the top of the Track page. When it is set to “On”, tracks points will be saved in the “Track Log” memory Space and on the Data Card.
“Log Track to Data Card” is the settable On/Off status of the GPS also saving track points on the Data Card but only if the GPS is also set to record track points (above). It is set in Data Card Setup on the Track page.
“Track On/Off” is the On/Off or Show/Not-Show status of each Saved Track on the Map page. It is set by check/uncheck “Show On Map” box on the track properties page of each track.
Tracks
Saved Tracks :
The 60/76 GPS will hold up to 20 Saved Tracks. Each Track must have of less than 500 Track Points. They are listed in a table on the Track Page.
The number of unused Saved Track spaces is shown below the table.
The Saved Tracks can come from actually saving a track as described in Operations or can be Downloaded to the 60/76 from a PC.
Saved Tracks may have any name but are limited to 13 characters.
If the first 13 characters of two tracks are the same in a PC, the second one will over-write the first one if both are downloaded.
Track Log Tracks :
The name of the track in the Track Log is “ACTIVE LOG”, strange but true! When the Track Log is not continuous, the segments are ACTIVE LOG 001, ACTIVE LOG 002, ACTIVE LOG 003, etc.
If you download a track named ACTIVE LOG (case sensitive) it will not go onto a Saved Track location but will go into the Track Log.
62/78 Track Definitions & Terminology
Track Classes are 3 classes of Tracks in the 62/78.
Saved Tracks (60/76 term) are just those tracks shown on the Track page in a 62/78. These are the tracks that may be shown on your Map page.
Current Track (called the Track Log in the 60/76) is a record of where you have ridden on the current day. You probably do not want to show (hide) it when on a Dual Sport ride to avoid confusion.
Archived Tracks is a day by day record of where you have ridden on past days. All these tracks are stored in the main GPS memory, not on the Data Card.
Track Point is one single point of position measured in longitude/latitude or one “Cookie Crumb” as many people call it. A “Track” is made of a series of Track Points.
Track Controls
Saved Track On/Off is the “Showing on Map” or “Hidden on Map” status of each Saved Track. It is changed by clicking “Show on Map” or “Hide on Map” box on properties page of each track. NOTE: if box says “Hide on Map”, that track is currently Showing on Map.
Current Track On/Off is the settable On/Off status of the recording the “Current Track”. When it is set to “Record”, tracks points will be saved in the “Current Track” memory Space. To set status, Menu, Menu, go to Setup & Enter, go to Tracks & Enter, go to Track Log & Enter, set to “Record” or “Do Not Record”. When recording, it can also be hidden.
Track Properties and Names
Saved Tracks :
The 62/78 GPS will hold up to 200 Saved Tracks with each Track having less than 2,000 Track Points (the 60/76 had 20 with 500 points each). They are just the tracks listed on the Track Page.
The Saved Tracks are listed in order of proximity of the first Track Point of each Track. (the 60/76 was in alpha/numeric order).
The Saved Tracks can come from actually saving a track as described in Operations or can be Downloaded to the 62/78 from a PC.
Saved Tracks may have any name but are limited to 13 characters.
If the first 13 characters of two tracks are the same in a PC, the second one will over-write the first one if both are downloaded.
Current Track :
There is only one Current Track. When looking at GPS Memory from PC, it is named “Current Track: Date Time” and is in a file named “Current GPX File”.
Archived Tracks :
Until you delete them, this is list of Tracks which recorded each days riding. When looking at GPS Memory from PC, each day’s track is a file named “ Date Time Day” with one Track with same name “Date Time Day”. The number of Archived Tracks is virtually unlimited.
