Downloading Tracks
First you must be familiar with the definitions and terminology of using Tracks. If you didn’t already do it, read
Track Definitions & Terminology.
On a point to point non-return ride that never crosses it’s self, all Tracks can be “On” at the start. However for any ride that loops back to the start
either in one day or two days, you don’t want to have the return Track “On” when you start or you will not know which one to follow. Many riders have
ridden loops backward because of this.
Some Dual Sport rides now offer choices of several loops all starting and finishing at the same location and some of the loops may cross other loops.
Obviously you only want the tracks “On” that you are going to follow at the time. The promoter should give you instructions on which Tracks to turn On/Off
as you ride various loops. NOTE: on 62/76, all Tracks will download as “Off” so you must always turn what Tracks are needed to start the ride.
The promoter will also set the Color of each Track. Countdown uses “Dark Green” for the normal way from start to finish. If there is an optional Easy Way
which could also just be a shortcut, it will be “Dark Magenta”. If there is an extremely difficult Hard Way, it will be “Red”.
Many people are Red/Green color blind and can’t see the difference between a Red and a Green Track. These riders will also need to change the color of each
Track to what works for them.
Before you start, you may need to set the On/Off status of Tracks (Color if needed)
using Track Page Operations.
If you have your “Track Log” set to “On” on your 60/76 or your Current Track set to “Record”, your GPS will record Track Points behind you as you ride.
Again unless you are riding point to point with no crossovers, you will get your own Track Log confused with the Tracks you are trying to follow.
There are two solutions:
Set your Track Log “Off” on 60/76
Set the color of the Track Log to “Transparent” on 60/76
Set your Current Log to “Not Record” or “Record, Do Not Show”. (This is Menu, Menu, Setup, Tracks, Track Log.)
If you are riding a Dual Sport event where the promoter provides GPS Track downloads, you need to:
Delete all your “Saved Tracks” on your 60/76,
Delete all your “Saved Tracks” or move them to the Archived Tracks folder on your 62/78
Have your GPS on when you get to Sign-In.
Promoter will download all the Tracks and Way Points for the ride and should give you some instructions on which Tracks to use when.
Downloading Tracks to 62/78 special notes:
Getting 500 point 60/76 type tracks into a 62/78:
If a promoter has just one set of tracks (one file) for the ride, he can download them to a 62/78 just like he does to the 60/76. The GPS will create a file titled “Temp.gpx” with the tracks in it and you will see all his tracks as Saved Tracks on the main Track page. These will be 500 point tracks designed for a 60/76.
However if the promoter has more than one file say for three optional loops he can not just download a second set of tracks. The 62/78 will erase the first Temp.gpx file with the first set of tracks and create a new “Temp.gpx” file with the only the second set of tracks in it.
The trick is to unplug your GPS after first download, it will shut off, then plug it back in. The GPS will have changed “Temp.gpx” to “Imported_Date Time” so you can now download the second set of tracks into a new temp file. Repeat if a third set is required.
Getting 2,000 point tracks into a 62/78:
What you really want it for the promoter to create a .gpx file with all tracks required for the ride in one file. The Tracks should be his actual Active Logs from 60/76 (or Current Tracks from 62/78). If any of the Tracks are >2,000 points he must filter them down to 2,000.
The promoter only needs to use Explore to copy the .gpx file to the gpx folder in your 62/78.
